Here I Am Lord, Look At Me!

It surprises me how many people wonder what God is up to. Does He sit on His throne enjoying all of heaven's beauty and intimately fellowshipping with those who have gone before us? Of course He does! But that’s not all folks!

He is actually very busy with the lives of His beloved Son’s bride. Listen to one of my favorite verses (besides my other 8,659!)

2 Chronicles 16:9 "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him."

Picture that one. I can. Every morning I quote that scripture and say, "Here I am Lord, look at me, my hearts desire is for You, work on my behalf today!"

God guides with His wisdom and foreknowledge unlike man who cannot see further than   his natural vision. Our Lord sees our future, our victories, the pitfalls, and distractions that would keep us from achieving His will in our lives.

You know it’s funny, but some picture God as having this great big all seeing eye; like in the pyramid on the one dollar bill. They think that He watches for your mistakes, catches you in the act, and boy do you feel His presence. They even believe that He sees into your closet, to see whether you are praying or deciding what to wear.

Does God only choose to see the bad or is He looking for the good? The truth is God can only see good. Since the blood of His dear Son Jesus covers us, the only way He knows us is by faith.

His eyes don’t see evil things, bad things. His are not eyes to be afraid of.

This is so true, for years our children really thought we had eyes in the back of our heads, like Martians.

But God is not a man or a mother. He is the ever-loving, merciful, ready to work on our behalf, Father! His mercies are new every morning and I encourage you each and every day to talk to Him and allow Him access your world as He has given you access into His.

I want to share a testimony of a miracle God did for me recently. It’s a two-part episode of God’s grace.

First, my sister bought me a pair of earrings that had a lot of meaning to me and I lost one. I was truly broken hearted as I searched every where without any success. The days passed and the chances grew slimmer for its return.

Several days later I was at my job at the beauty salon and having been a hairdresser for thirty years, my shoulder is becoming, let’s say, very tired. Being a stylist is very important to me because I have been doing it for so long I am very accomplished and I love it. Also, I was born again in Beauty School and at that time dedicated my hands to the Lord for His use and glory. I have used this platform as a witness for Jesus and have been blessed to see many souls and hearts given to Christ. On this particular day I was in distress not only because of my shoulder pain, but also at the possibility that I would need to leave my career.

I took my bible and went outside and sat on the curb in front of the salon to calm my doubts and find peace. I opened to Psalms 37 and in it were pearls of wisdom and truth. 4 "Delight thyself in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of your heart." 5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, commit thy way unto Him and He shall bring it to pass." 23 "The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord." 25 "I have been young and now I am old, and I have never seen the righteous forsaken or His seed begging bread."

Such comfort I found in His word. After a little while I got up from the curb, leaving my opened bible there and went inside to get something. I came back out and sat down again intending to resume my study and meditation of the Word. I closed my eyes and prayed. I poured out my heart to my God. At first it was all about me. My need, my wanting to work, my needing to help the ministry with my money, feeling abandoned because God didn’t need ME to help Him take care of me. Then the most awesome turnabout occurred. As David in the Psalms did so many times, I felt God and His complete love for me and my prayer went from me-centered to God-centered!

I started to cry as I praised God for all the blessings He has given us over the years, our ministry, our marriage, our children and our home of love. I told God that if He never did another thing, I could live off of all the many blessings He had already done. I confessed that whatever His will was for me was all I wanted, my hearts desire is to serve Him and be in His perfect will. Then, through my tears, I opened my eyes and below my bible, where I had been sitting (a spot that I had searched many times before and found nothing), was my earring. Perfect and delicate, angel delivered, and lovingly placed by God’s infinite mercy and grace.

I heard Him say to me, "Dianne, I love you and every thing you desire, every detail of your life, is in my hands, just stay perfectly in love with Me."

Yes, the Lord’s eyes are to and fro to work for us. Look up and say, "Here I am Lord, look at me," and He will.

Too Many Hats

Rev. Dianne Doonan

As we are called to be positioned beside the wonderful man of God we adoringly call our husbands, I would like to encourage you in the faith.

I'm sure there are many stories you could tell me and I encourage you to do so.  Let me share an awesome experience I had with the Lord one day.

Being the wife of a pastor is a unique position to fill, and we must remember that just as our husbands were called into their ministry gift, so God designed and foreordained us as a work of completion to an otherwise lonely life.

We see our husbands as men who though human, walk in a world untouched by earthly desires. Given wholly, and unreservedly to the ways of the Lord. Time to prepare messages, prayerful encounters, busy schedules, and endless counseling hours, these can all play havoc on the everyday scheme of our lives.

Our children are looked upon as examples of our perfect home life.  We are meek, mild, and quiet spirited yet we play out any role that are position as a woman's leader calls for.

Well, one Sunday morning as I was preparing for church which was new at that time (we were pioneering a new work and it met in our house!) there are many things I had to have ready on time. Children fed, kitchen cleaned up, all dressed spotlessly, readying ourselves in the attitude of gathering together in the name of the Lord.

Feeling over extended and pressed to be perfectly productive in all areas of my life, I must admit that I was in a slight mental disarray. I sang in praise and worship, I taught the children, and all of these things weighed upon me.  I felt this unbearably heavy load instead of the joy of  ministry that it really was. As I was preparing my heart and prayerfully releasing my anxiety, as to be ready to minister before Lord, He spoke to my heart.

The loving and gentle way He soothes my mind left me in awe as He spoke these words

"You may wear many hats Dianne, but you have only one crown."

The release I felt that morning is one I will always remember. The Crown of Righteousness we wear in Jesus Christ is one of freedom. From the Crown of Thorns He wore on his brow to the Glorious Crown of Life He now wears as He sits upon his throne, He gives us peace. We may try in the flesh to accomplish many things, even with all are Godly motivations, yet as we do, we can become exhausted. But the Lord in all his goodness was relating to me was that there may be many hats we wear, but the Crown of Righteousness is the one he seals us with. As we allow the water of the washing of the word to cleanse our minds, we are released to be not only the best we can be, but we are all things in Christ.

I love the Amplified Bible translation of:

Philippians 4:13 "I'm equal to anything, and ready for anything, through Him who infuses his inner strength into my being."

As our busy hurried lives and desires are calling out,  my prayer is that we all remember that we must put Jesus First. All else will  be dim in comparison to the one who brings us such joy.

My grateful thanks to all of our brothers and sisters who hold us in prayer as we all endeavor to the fulfill the great commission.
